Confession: Working out the math for things is one of my favorite parts of crafting. I bought a used original sizzix die on ebay that arrived this morning. I needed to work out whether it fit together as is or after a 1/4" seam. I cut some paper. I sent it through the sewing machine to simulated a 1/4" seam. I made test circles in Inkscape. I did a lot of math. It was heavenly.
