a victory dance or two

Craig's New Quilt

I finished a small simple quilt for Craig this week. This patchwork side was technically supposed to be the back, but we liked it so much that we quilted it this side up. The opposite side has a quilt top that I finished *cough* 19 months ago.  Craig has offered to help me get some photos of the reverse side over the weekend. It will be wrinkly though. I'm happy to report this quilt is already being well-loved.

I gambled with the binding using a large scale Timeless Treasures print with a retro New York inspired design. It's the same print that is most prominently spread through the patchwork. I love the way the color changes along the edge.  If you're looking for the older print, I noticed a partial bolt at Undercover Fabrics in Seattle. I'm kicking myself for not picking up more. It's one of my all-time favorites.

Another award this week!

And, hey! Look at that! Another award this week, because we should always celebrate our wins. (\Can you tell that I'm working on trying to be a little less hard on myself?

I'm not sure if you've ever bought fabric at IKEA, but you measure it out yourself and cut it with the world's dullest scissors. Gnawing the fabric might be easier. Then you take it to get it weighed.  Based on the weight, they work out how much you took and bill you accordingly. A perfect 1 meter cut to the millimeter! Even Mr IKEA was impressed!  Monumental folks. Truly monumental. Woooo!!!!

Are you celebrating any small wins this week?  If by chance they are the same victories as mine,  feel free to nab the award buttons and let the world know what an awesome week you are having. Maybe you're celebrating something else?  Nab the one of the award buttons anyway. Let's hear about something small that you want to celebrate.

  2. This is a gorgeous quilt, and I love the way the binding changes colour around the quilt. I made my first lengthwise grain binding over the weekend, and while it was a bit strange not to have the stretch that comes with a cross grain binding, it worked just fine. Now I have no excuse not to use those long narrow quilt back offcuts for binding purposes! And yeah, I would be doing a little dance for that perfect 1m cut of fabric at Ikea!

  3. I love that NY print as well. Only got a yard about 2 years ago. Blew through it immediately Wonder if they still have it. Nah.

  4. Love the quilt and the NY print, really gorgeous - I don't think I've seen the NY fabric before. Never in my life have I hit the 1.00 metre mark at Ikea! - that's definitely worth an award! If I remember, I take my own scissors to IKEA as I can't stand their blunt ones.

  6. I have some of that retro NY & love it too.
My Ikea has a cut slip where you write that you took 6 yards & they trust you. :o) (They had a hard time finding the code to use for the script numbers print, but they believed me when I said that I got 6 yards.)
