Another day, another cushion.
I'm still coughing and sputtering, but mustered enough energy last night to sit down and sew another cushion top which I finished quilting this morning. This time I used one of my Woven Slash designs, also from the Quilt Design A Day project. It may appear to be simple half-square triangle, but it isn't. There was actually a fair bit of fretting over seam placement and the best way to break up the piecing for visual impact.
I used an aqua and black shot cotton that reads as teal that I picked up at a quilt show along with solids in my stash. I love how the shot cotton adds variation to the background through the orientation of the warp and weft threads. I pieced and quilted it using an aqua 50wt Aurifil thread, 1148. For the backing, I used one of favorite my go-to prints, Tula Pink raindrops.
When I started the #qdad exercises, I wasn't sure where they'd lead me. I wasn't even sure how committed I'd be. I told myself to be happy with three designs a week. I'm thrilled this daily exercise is turning out some amazing projects. If you'd like to grow creatively, I highly recommend giving yourself a daily exercise of some sort -- sketching, designing, painting, anything... 10-15 minutes each day.
Are you a part of daily design or creative exercise group? Has it made a difference for you?
This is awesome!! Would make a gorgeous quilt pattern!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love this! That shot cotton seems to shimmer even in the photo - and your contrast color choices are ever so perfect. It's really beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh, the colours are gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteVery cool. I think I can see your thoughtful use of seams. That I like. sometimes HST are overused. Love how this creates space around your design.
ReplyDeleteI think a creative daily habit like yours would be wonderful for me, design-wise. I guess I do have a daily creative habit with my daily blog posts. And I do believe that that habit has brought me along as a writer.
I adore this design, and I love the colors you chose to bring it to life. I'm kinda surprised at how long I've been doing #qdad. I expected it to last a week, maybe two tops. Go figure!
ReplyDeleteI love the simplicity of this pillow. And the colors... amazing! I love also your photos - so well done!
ReplyDeletegorgeous cushion, I really like the colours you have used :)
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful. Lovely colours too. What is the little pieced block I see on the wall above your cushion?
