making a nest.
A few people recently asked how we are settling into our new home. The answer is pretty darn quick. We aren't ones for a show home with perfectly styling. We go for a more lived in approach. Two days after our boxes arrived, they were all unpacked. Things were put away and the nest of quilts and pillows started to fall into their natural shape on the couch.
We didn't buy any new furniture for this move. In fact we purged quite a bit - my sewing desk, our coffee table and the sideboard. Craig broke out the hacksaw and drill to modify some of our cupboards to fit this much smaller house. It didn't take long before we were home.
...and apparently it's a very patchwork home. Speaking of patchwork - the move meant giving up my sewing room and my desk. For now, the the sewing machine and fabric are tucked away in a cupboard and come out as I need them. I've got my eyes peeled for a retro sewing cabinet to fill a nook I've made with just that purpose in mind. In the meantime, I've even managed my first quilt top in our new space.
I hear stories of people who still have boxes packed from long along moves and I shudder. I can't imagine not settling in straight away - building nests, building a home.
To celebrate our new place, I'm going to host a housewarming party here on the blog next week, thanks to my friends at Polka Dot Tea. Check back on Monday for the details on your chance to win ten great Japanese fabrics.
I have the same lounge in the same colour - Love all the quilty goodness in these pics ;o)
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you're settling in. I think the unpacked boxes came with our kids - each additional kid meant more left over boxes after we'd 'almost' unpacked. Really, those boxes are just an indicator that it's time to fire up the Gumtree account and have a purge.
ReplyDeleteLove all the glass in your new place - such a beautiful view and plenty of gorgeous light!
Your new home looks really cozy!
ReplyDeleteHave a nice time :)

Looks beautiful, and why not? with all that lovely patchwork. Of course, we all love that glossy red surface that really gives your room a pop.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your new home--

What a lovely colourful home, good on you for unpacking everything too.
ReplyDeleteLove the red and the stacks of quilts - and "Seconds" on the nightstand, too! Seems like my kind of place! :)
ReplyDeleteHow fun to see your patchwork bits showing up all over. That's my kind of home! literally. =)
