There was a bit of confusion regarding my last post which showed my quilt, Cordial on Sunday, in Patchwork & Stitching magazine. A reader commented, "It's a lovely design but I'm shocked that it wasn't made up for the magazine!!! Pretty soon we will have whole magazines without real quilts in them. We can also stay home and cover our laps and beds with pictures of quilts, instead of real ones. Oh my..."
In case anyone else had the same concern...
I want to assure everyone that the quilt is real. The photograph shown in the magazine in my last post is real too. If you look closely at the picture, you can see the tell-tale linen wrinkles around the border.
My aim with Cordial on Sunday was to make a highly graphical quilt that looked like it popped right out of the page. I opted for a solid-color linen-blend background. I am embarrassed to admit how long I spent looking for an impactful green. I paired it with solid cottons and one print, then I used matching green quilting thread that wouldn't detract from the design. I wanted this quilt to have a high graphic feel. I guess it worked?
The magazine also has another shot of the quilt in the spread too. It wasn't my favorite styling because it was hung on a wall and the weight of the linen made for a bit of awkward drape, so I didn't include it in the post. For anyone still skeptical, here's a shot that I recently took in our courtyard. The quilt is indeed warm, weighty and very much real.
Congratulations that really proves that you hit the mark it people can't tell it is actually a finished quilt and not a diagram!
ReplyDeleteHa! I actually thought the same thing - that the quilt had never been made up. I wasn't shocked and appalled though. It's lovely and I thoroughly enjoy your blog. You're hugely talented.
ReplyDeleteI love it Amy, it's stunning and gorgeous and highly graphic! perfection in my eyes
ReplyDeleteI guess it looked too perfect in the magazine! I really love this quilt and sorry that the magazine isn't available in the States ~
ReplyDeleteThanks for clearing that up. I was "that" commenter. I think there was also something in your text that was confusing. Anyway, it is a very graphic quilt and it does "pop" off the page. Like the above comment, I wish we could get the magazine. Perhaps it will be available somewhere on a website.
ReplyDeleteIt's real and fabulous!
