the happiest sort of phone call.

Isn't this building gorgeous? It's the stunning new Balmain home of Calico&Ivy. (images from the Calico&Ivy website)

I mentioned that I had a sneak peek behind those doors while Deb and Sarah were readying the shop. It was a feast for the senses. Walls lined with bolts of Liberty and Meguille Nuno. Cubbyholes filled with Debbie Bliss and Rowan. There was Yuwa and Amy Butler. Kaffe Fassett and Anna Maria Horner. There was truly something for everyone. Fresh, inviting and friendly. Divine eye candy and giftware. A little kitchen space to settle in for the afternoon with a cup of tea. It's the sort of place where you come for the shopping, but stay for the experience.

If I could work at a craft store, this would be exactly the sort of place that I would like to work.

And guess what? It is!

I'm over the moon to let you know what I'm doing next. Beginning in early January, I'll be joining the Calico girls. You'll find me a few days a week helping out at Calico&Ivy in Balmain. It's not often that you get a chance to do what you love. I feel quite lucky to get to do so twice.

If you're out and about near Balmain, pop by and say hello.

  2. Although I love my job I am just a little bit jealous.

I've been to the Calico and Ivy store in Perth, where my parents live, and think I moved from Sydney at just the wrong time. Do you know if there are any plans for a Melbourne store?

  4. I used to work in a quilt shop and LOVED it. Many of my best stitching pals now were my customers or students then. Have fun (and just try to take any of your pay cheque home in cash. Go on, I dare ya. Betcha it will look more like fabric!).
