On Craftsy Classes

Last month in the peak the my affliction I found myself in the uncomfortable position of having my mind completely working, yet my body was too exhausted to respond. I was thinking clearly, but incapable of of doing much aside from laying in bed.

Luckily a good friend came to the rescue and bought me a Craftsy class, Creative Quilting With Your Walking Foot with Jacquie Gering. Being stuck in bed or on the couch, it was the perfect passive activity. I mentally filed away her tips and techniques, ready to try them out as soon as my body gave me the a-ok to sew again. I've just got the energy to turn on my machine this week and put those skills to the test - trying out her matchstick quilting and continuous curve methods on abandoned quilt blocks. Next up, I'd like to try her lettering technique.

Even if you're already experienced with domestic machine quilting, I highly recommend the course. Jacquie has a terrific delivery style that makes the material accessible to everyone and instills confidence as you watch. It's chock full of hints and tips along the way.

I have one more Craftsy gift voucher to use soon thanks to another wonderful friend. Have you taken many courses there before? Which ones do you recommend?

  1. Those are great gifts! I took and really liked Sarah Fielke's class "Big Techniques from Small Scraps". I have always been a fan of her work.

  2. I took the same class and I really liked it. The only other paid class I've done is the bread course from Peter Reinhardt. It is fantastic if you are into bread baking. He is such a generous teacher and he quickly answers questions on the craftsy platform. I've also done some of the free classes and found many of them great.

  3. One night, not so long ago,I checked my email and there was a $20 for all classes code from Craftsy. So having had a wine (or two) I ended up with 5 Craftsy classes now awaiting me!! (I may have been motivated by the procession of fishing gear arriving that week from ebay courtesy of my husband) So far, all I've watched is a free knife chopping tutorial! But I learnt a lot!! I really can't wait to watch the others, they sound awesome. I just need more free time :)

  4. I have several & like them all for different reasons. So it is hard to make a suggestion, I really liked teacher "X's" delivery, but you might buy the class wanting it to be pattern or technique based & be disappointed. I don't like Teacher "Y's" cutting technique, but I like her patterns.

  5. All the Craftsy classes I have done have been well worth the money. I recently bought the bra making class- always something new to learn!

  6. I think all of the classes are excellent--that's what I hear time and time again from users. The only issue I have is that I like to do the classes at my cottage but the download fees in the rural area are very high. I know they can be downloaded to an ipad or similar, but not to my computer. So I have to buy an ipad to download and then view at my cottage.
