getting it right.

Some times I get it right too! Thanks everyone for offering advice last week on my not-so-favorite UFO at the moment. I think I just lost the love for it and when it goes, it goes. I don't think you should force things that aren't working.  In the meantime, I forged on...

Every so often, you find the right block for the right fabric. This block is a variation of one found in one of my Japanese craft books. I've reversed the points and enlarged the center circle substantially. In my mind, it called for a much bigger circle. So I went big. I think it helps the signpost shape barge right out of the block.

I have no problem tooting my own horn (or ringing my own bell) I love how this came out. I like how the feathers look when cut and oriented around the circle. It gives a bit of a whirlpool which is complimented by the triangular points. Looking at it, I could have made it even more dramatic by using symmetry and fussy cutting the dark plaid. Still, I feel this block has impact. What do you think?

Fabrics all new FreeSpirit. Anna Maria Horner Field Study and Denyse Schmidt Chicopee Pattern is a variation of one in My Favorite Patterns163. The edges need trued up, but that can wait until I'm ready to use this block.
